The muña is a shrubby plant, woody measuring between 80 centimeters and 1.20 meters high. Leafy at the top, erect and hairy part. Its stem is branched from the base and has small leaves. Its flowers are white and are gathered in small clusters. The muña is used as a condiment in the Peruvian Andes.

The muña has a stimulating effect on the whole body. The muña infusion is used for its carminative and stomachic properties. The leaves infuse removed dizziness, soothe the stomach pain and facilitate digestion. Infusion also fight parasites and relieve menstruation when mixed with honey. The infusion of fresh leaves relieves cough and is used by people who suffer from asthma.


The machadas leaves mixed with olive oil heal burns and mixed with lemon relieve itching from hives. Muna leaves are also used in the healing of sprains, fractures and bruises.
